The result of cross-border cooperation between the Municipality of Bragança and the Diputación de Zamora, the museum is located inside the citadel of the Castle of Bragança, in a refurbished building.

Opened on 24th February 2007, under the theme of the mask, it is a space for the dissemination of traditions related to the winter and carnival festivities of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and of the Diputación de Zamora.

Consisting of 3 floors, it allows the visitor to contact, at any time of the year, with a multiplicity of parties, characters, and rituals where the mask assumes the primordial role of the festivity.

In addition to the contact with the characters recreated by the 47 exposed caretos, the museum allows the visitor to experience, to the sound of traditional music and through photographs and exhibited objects, the winter festivities represented in different locations.
